![]() ![]() ![]() My preferred method is NOT to use the WAN port on the modem/router. You can use the Spectrum modem/router to provide WiFi if you wish. Then connect a cable from the LAN port on the FW6B to one of the ports on your switch. A fairly standard approach would be to connect a cable from the modem to the WAN port on the FW6B. For example, I tried to install a customer-supplied modem to Comcast/Xfinity and they wouldn't allow it (for some actual technical reasons) if we were wanting to have a static IP. You'll need their help getting it provisioned. Next, as Tom mentioned, you want to ensure that your ISP will allow you to do this. That's fine, but need to keep these things straight. To start with, the SB6183 is just a modem, not a modem and router. ![]() Then connect my Spectrum router and the existing UniFI POE switch to the newly acquired UniFi switch?ĭoes the Spectrum receive the connection through an Ethernet port, coax cable, or what? I'll assume coax by your mention of the SB6183. Do I connect old spectrum router to OPT 1 on my Protectli hardware? Then connect existing UniFi POE switch to old spectrum router?Ģ: Or do I get another UniFi Swtich and connect that to my Protectli hardware. After that I want to connect to my old Spectrum router for wifi and also the existing UniFi POE swtich. Connect the Arris router to Protectli FW6B. I’m not sure if the following setup is a good approach: I want to put Protectli hardware firewall. A UniFi POE switch has UniFi AP PRO and Cloud Key Gen2 for camera’s is connected. A Unifi POE switch is connected to this Spectrum router. I have some questions on how to approach installing firewall on my network.Ĭurrently I have a Spectrum wireless router. and the NordVPN that I have been using could only manage around 20 mbs on the Asus router.I am a newbie and I’m expanding my home network for the first time. The reason for doing this is because I changed from a standard rate ISP (10 mbs) to an ISP providing fibre (300 mbs) I have recently changed my router from an Asus DSL-AC88U to pfsense on a Protectli FW6B ![]()
